We just started off the year and there are already new challenges to talk about. Fortunately, one of the first challenges of this year is not as dumb as most of the challenges we’ve been seeing in the past.
So, what is the challenge we are talking about? Well, most of you have probably already seen it all over social media. Most of all, on Instagram. 2019 has started with a new trend called the 10 year challenge.
And today, we are going to tell you all about it.

What is it – the 10 year challenge?
The 10 year challenge is one of the newest trends in social media of this year. It started early in January 2019 and captivated people from all over the world, including celebrities, influencers, and regular users.
The overall idea is to make users feel proud of themselves after seeing the changes they have made over a decade. As a matter of fact, this challenge helps us to see how well we have done – physically, professionally, and personally.
Although it is most popularly known as the 10 year challenge, it also has a few other names. The “#HowHardDidAgingHitYou challenge” and the
“#GlowUp challenge” are two perfect examples.
Social Media
The 10 year challenge has literally been flooding the most important social media platforms, like Facebook, Twitter, and of course Instagram. However, there has been some controversy over on Facebook regarding this challenge.
But why? Well, apparently people are concerned that Facebook could be using the photos we post to test facial recognition technology. Evidently, since the Facebook scandal, users no longer trust this platform.
However, Facebook denies having any hand in the 10 Year Challenge.
“This is a user-generated meme that went viral on its own,” a Facebook spokesperson responded to the allegations.

Memes
Last of all, let’s talk about memes. This wouldn’t be a good year if there were no memes to talk about. And of course, the 10 year challenge trend became the perfect excuse for people to create such visual jokes.
The most popular memes were those regarding people who are still not in a relationship and of course, people who don’t seem to age at all. But that’s not all. As a matter of fact, some memes were created to make people conscious of some of the most common problems in the world, rather than to make them to laugh.
Final Thoughts
From a neutral point of view, we don’t believe that this trend could be harmful to anyone. Still, if you are worried that Facebook could be using the photo you posted for purposes that you don’t approve of, simply print it and delete it.
After all, the idea is to feel proud of yourself. So, as long as YOU know you’ve changed for the better over the past decade, everything should be good.
