One of the most effective ways to grow your business on Instagram is to work alongside an influencer. Indeed, influencer marketing helps brands to get discovered and reach out to their desired audience. But, there’s just one problem.
Many “influencers” nowadays don’t really have supportive followers. As a matter of fact, they don’t have followers at all. Now, how can a person be an influencer without followers? Well, they can’t. You see, people know for a fact that becoming an influencer means getting brand deals, and therefore money.
So, they go onto websites that sell bots and buy them to pose as if they were real Instagram followers. Evidently, this helps to trick brands into believing someone is actually popular and can deliver results. Well, today we are going to teach you how you can detect fake followers, and hire an actual influencer rather than a fake one.
Detect Fake Instagram Followers Within The App
The easiest way to detect fake Instagram followers is to do it from within the app. As a matter of fact, all you need to do is enter the profile of the person whose followers’ list you want to check, and then tap where it says followers.
There, you will be able to identify whether their followers are real or fake. For example, a couple of months ago I ran a little experiment in which I bought Instagram followers from different sites on the internet. Evidently, I was careful to read the terms of each of these sites. And every single one of them claimed that they would deliver REAL Instagram followers to my new account. (You can read the full article here).
But, to my surprise, I ended up getting a bunch of fake followers. In general, it is very easy to identify when someone has fake Instagram followers. For example, if you go through the list of followers of a person and see a bunch of weird names or profiles with no pics or any sort of content. Well, chances are that those are bots.
Detect Fake Instagram Followers With External Websites
So, what happens when you start investigating an influencer with millions of followers. Well, that is when things can get somewhat tricky. The fact of the matter is that anyone can go through someone’s follower list.
However, when a person has millions of followers on their Instagram account, identifying fake followers from real ones is almost impossible. That is why there are some tools that you can use to get the information that you want.
Take Ig Audit for example. IG Audit is a website created by a former Nasa scientist that helps brands to scan the activity of any Instagram account. In general, what this tool does is scan the engagement of 200 followers and then provides you with a real follower percentage based on the results.
In my case, I wanted to audit the Instagram account of an influencer who became trending a couple of months ago for not being able to sell 36 T-Shirts. Now, why did this begin to trend? Well, this influencer has an Instagram account with over 2.6 million followers.
Here’s what I got:
As you can see, only 60 percent of this influencer’s audience is real. That means 1,040,000 followers are nothing but bots.
As you can see, there are multiple ways to detect fake Instagram followers. Unfortunately, the rise of fake “influencers” on Instagram has caused many brands to lose money in vain. Evidently, no one wants to give away their money. So, the best way to make sure your brand will get what you need is to verify if the influencer you want to hire does actually have a genuine audience.
Better safe than sorry.
