One of the things I enjoy most is simply lying in bed and watching as many shows as I can. And I know for a fact that there are a lot of people who like to do exactly the same thing. At present, the number one site to watch shows and movies on is Netflix. And one of their most popular productions is 13 Reasons Why.

The show has become very popular among teenagers. Currently, it has 3 seasons and that latest of them all was released about a month ago. Unfortunately, many people didn’t really like how things played out. You see, in this last season, there was a new character called Ani Achola.

A new student played by British actress Grace Saif, her role in the series led fans to be annoyed at the producers. Many thought that she actually ruined the show. As a matter of fact, people hated the 3rd season so much that even Rotten Tomatoes rated it with a 6% in the Tomatometer.

Why Didn’t People Like The 3rd Season?

So, why didn’t people like the third season at all? Although I’m not going to talk about this in great detail, I can tell you that Ani was one of the reasons why most of us didn’t like the last season. To put it briefly, the British actor played a character that a lot of viewers hated. As a matter of fact, many argued that it didn’t make sense for the producers to add her character at all.

And to be honest with you, I feel the same way. Even though 13 Reasons Why began as an excellent show, the last season has changed things for good. In fact, I’m not even sure if people will want to see another season in the future.

Instagram Bullying – Grace Saif

Unfortunately, what people failed to understand is that British actress Grace Saif was only playing a role. In other words, she was just a character that has nothing to do with who the actress is in real life. Well, people didn’t seem to understand this.

You see, Saif had to delete her Instagram posts because she started to get lots and lots of hate comments. In a nutshell, she was being bullied. But, here’s the thing. People didn’t realize that they were getting angry at a fictional character.

Instead, they attacked the actress as if she was actually guilty for how things played out in the last season of the show. Incredibly, this has happened before. For example, do you remember what happened in season one? (I would advise you to stop reading if you have not watched the 1st season – spoilers ahead).

American actor Justin Prentice played the role of Bryce Walker. A student that turned out to be a rapist and one of the people responsible for the suicide of Hannah Baker. Well, guess what? Once again viewers got mad at the character and blamed it on the actor.

As a matter of fact, Prentice received a lot of hate comments on Instagram. At the time, most people started calling him a rapist, a pig, and some even went as far as to say he deserved to die. Awful, right?

Co-Workers Support

So, considering that things got out of hand. One of Saif’s co-workers Timothy Granaderos (He plays the role of Monty on 13 Reasons Why) wrote a message on one of his Instagram posts. He basically said what any person who actually understands the difference between a character and an actor really is.

Hey y’all, just a reminder. Whether or not you support, like, or love, a character in our fictional tv show—please remember that there is a talented and beautiful actor/actress bringing those scripted words to life.

The fact of the matter is that he couldn’t be more right. The idea of hating a character so much talks a lot about an actor’s work. We actually get to believe the actor or actress is the person they are playing for the show. However, it is always important to remember that none of what we see on TV is actually real.

So, don’t go bullying someone just because they were good at their jobs. Instead, why don’t you go and congratulate them? Sounds much better, don’t you think?
