Pornhub benefits from social media being down

In the course of 2019, three of the most important social media platforms in the world have presented temporary failures. Evidently, this has resulted in a huge number of users having to find something else to do. And as curious as this might sound, it has to do with porn.

So, here’s the thing. Every time Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp start to fail, there is one particular site that benefits the most. Pornhub! That’s right. Apparently, Pornhub gets more traffic every time the three most important social media sites in the world stop working. And today, we are going to tell you all about it.

How social media going down benefits Pornhub

Stats

So, this is an actual fact. Pornhub does indeed get more traffic when social media starts failing. As a matter of fact, the first time this happened was on March 13th 2019. You see, back then, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp stopped working for about 10 hours. Of course, it’s not like we could not access any of the sites at all.

However, the number of functions we could use was very limited. Now, one would think that with all three sites not working properly, people would go out and enjoy some time with their friends and family. Well, guess again.

Pornhub gets more traffic

According to Pornhub, their site had a huge spike in users when Facebook and Instagram went down. Moreover, many people started to look for the names of both social media platforms in Pornhub’s search bar. As a matter of fact, the term Instagram went up 323% while Facebook had a 221% spike.

The event was so unusual that Pornhub ended up sharing a chart on their Twitter account where followers could see in detail how people access the adult site when social media is not working.

A Second Time

Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp started failing for the second time this 2019. Unfortunately, many people, as well as big companies, were unable to use some of the platforms’ tools once again. But, while the social media sites were failing, Pornhub was getting traffic.

For the second time in the year, people started to enter the porn site looking for a different kind of entertainment. Now, don’t get us wrong, Pornhub gets about 80 million visitors every day. Maybe even more. But, whenever social media sites present this sort of problem, people access Pornhub to look for Facebook and Instagram related videos.

And what’s curious is that there are actually about 2500 videos including the name of these sites in their titles. Somehow this leads me to think that people are just trolling the site. But, who knows? Maybe users are actually interested in watching porn videos including something Facebook or Instagram related. After all, there are people who are into weird stuff.

How Does Pornhub Benefit?

So, there is one more question to answer. How does Pornhub benefit from social media sites going down? Well, that’s simple. Money! It all has to do with money these days. You see, Pornhub getting more traffic means more people watching their videos.

And just like YouTube, Pornhub also makes part of its profit from ads. Of course, it’s not like we are going to find ads like the ones we see on YouTube. Things on Pornhub are a little more different. For instance, a user could go on and watch a porn video and get an ad of a different porn site inviting them to sign up and enjoy better quality content.

But, the funny thing is that every now and then, there’s a non-related porn industry company advertising on Pornhub. For example, Kraft Heinz did so during the Superbowl season. The food company ran an ad on the porn site with hopes of getting the attention of more people.

Final Thoughts

Honestly, I was sort of amused to learn about this. There are literally a million and one things people can do when social media is not working. However, it seems that we are so attached to the digital world that we replace one digital site with another.

Now, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanting to watch porn. But, to go ahead and look for Facebook and Instagram related videos sounds just like something a troll would do. Hopefully, the social media platforms I talked about in this article will do something to prevent their sites from failing again.
